Sugarcane harvesting is a heavily labour-intensive operation and thousands of labourers use to come from drought prone areas to work as sugarcane harvesting labourers for the requirements of their livelihood. In all 210 sugarcane harvesting labourers were randomly selected for the present investigation. The study concluded that the relationship between some selected independent and dependent variables showed that the variables like age, education, caste, marital status, family size, family type, land holding and occupation had statistically non-significant relationship with socio-biography. The variables viz., experience, income and nature of migration showed significant relationship with socio-biography. The respondents sugarcane harvesting labourers were consuming Bajra/Jowar Bhakari with curry of cereals/pulses, edible oils every day and weekly meat/egg/ vegetables as energy source since they have to perform the heavy and untired work. More than half (69.04 per cent) of respondents were using more than two pairs of cotton cloths, incase of Terreline majority i.e. 71.90 per cent of the respondent were using one pair. About 37.14 per cent of the sugarcane harvesting labourers were using hand pumps as their source of drinking water. All the sugarcane harvesting labourers were using as there shelter bamboo hut covered with sugarcane trash the during harvesting period at factory residence. Majority of respondents (93.33 per cent) brushed their tooth every morning followed by more than half i.e. 53.33 per cent of the respondents were washing their clothes regularly. During harvesting work at factory site, the respondents sugarcane harvesting labourers were not much worried about their health and cleanliness so they many times faced their health problem. Keywords

In Karnataka, Kolar district is the leading silk producer in which Mysore, Bengaluru and Mandya are the traditional silk producing areas. Kolar district was selected purposefully for the study purpose as a representative for South Karnataka region. In all total 90 respondents were selected randomly from Chintamani Taluka of Kolar district. Practices about which all (100 per cent) of the respondent sericulturists had full knowledge of land preparation, recommended mulberry varieties, type of soil required to cultivate the mulberry crop, time of planting, shoot rearing method, cross bred silkworms, and inter cultivation operations. Nearly 55.60 per cent of the respondent sericulturists had medium level of knowledge regarding selected sericulture management practices. All the respondent sericulturists fully adopted practices like soil type, land preparation time of planting. A majority of the respondent sericulturists fully adopted mulberry cultivation practices. 55.60 per cent of the respondent sericulturists had adopted the selected sericulture management practices upto medium extent. Keywords

The research was conducted in two district of Western Maharashtra. The personal interviewing method used for data collection. The major objective of the research was to study extent of technological gap between recommended and actually adopted tomato technologies by the tomato growers from Western Maharashtra. Relationship between selected personal, social, economic, situational, communication and psychological characteristics of the tomato growers and their extent of overall technological gap was also observed. The present study revealed high technology gap in use of growth regulators, irrigation and nutrient management and plant protection so, it is suggested to organise result demonstration and field visits for minimizing technological gap by State Agricultural Department. It was observed that technological gap was decreasing with increasing education, farming experience, social participation, socio-economic status, size of land holding, area under tomato, annual income, annual income from tomato, cropping intensity, cosmopoliteness, knowledge, scientific orientation, economic motivation and marketing behaviour all these factors should be taken into consideration while disseminating tomato technology. Keywords

The research was conducted in two districts of Western Maharashtra. The personal interviewing method was used for data collection. To find out the reasons for existence of technological gap and the suggestions made by the tomato growers in minimizing the technological gap in the cultivation of tomato crop were the two important objectives studied under this research. It was found that majority of the respondent tomato growers reported that lack of knowledge of selection of proper growth regulator was the reason for existence of technological gap, followed by the lack of knowledge of proper application of growth regulator. The respondent tomato growers suggested that they need stabilization of market prizes and supply of fertilizer within time. Keywords

The study was conducted in Purandar Tahsil of Pune district, in all 15 villages on random basis were selected on the basis of more acres under plantation. From each village, 9 respondents were selected on the same criteria hence in all 135 respondents were interviewed. It was found that about 75 per cent of the custard apple cultivators were in between the age of 34 to 55 years. 62 per cent of them were Secondary educated. (88.00 per cent), 74 per cent of them earned Rs. 1 lakh to 2 lakh per annum earning from custard apple cultivation. Disease management (64 per cent), pest management (63 per cent), fertilizer management (63 per cent), selection of planting material (61 per cent) training and pruning management (61 per cent), weed management (50 per cent). The reasons for existence of technological gap was scarcity of irrigation water during Bahar treatment period (91 per cent), lack of knowledge about recommended chemical fertilizer dose (90 per cent) and unavailability of disease pest and drought resistant variety (85 per cent). The study emerged with the major implications that to promote the respondent cultivars for establishing the processing units and markets on co-operative basis. Keywords
